Animus History
Mar. 10th, 2019 10:49 amOctober Year Two
Nesir woke up in a bed that was not hers, in a room with lamps that shone brighter than any lamps she had ever known and a note telling her that her world had been destroyed. The first person sheinterrogated met was one of her roommates Jade Strider who managed to confuse her even more in three seconds flat by talk of pirates and posers and bros.
She also didn't explain anything useful, claiming they were in the 'Magical Land of Tower Shithive Maggots' and they had been brought through 'a rainbow portal of fairies and make-believe.' She picked on Nesir's dialect and generally was difficult. But they ended the conversation in solidarity, Jade told her to 'eat the oatmeal, try not to puke and to try not to lose her mind the next time the head honchos got bored'. She explained a little about how science was like less ethical magic and then let Nesir go and get into trouble elsewhere.
She discovered her trunk and learned she had six knives, that was it. Which meant she was stuck wearing the weird skin tight suit she had arrived in. She met some more people, learning more information about where she was, who their kidnappers were and that no one truly knew if their worlds had been destroyed at all.
The most important encounter on day one was her meeting with Ganondorf. She mistook him for a shadow creature, a monster if a sentient one and in the name of the Shadow God commanded him to give her information. When he told her he was a king she answered with sarcasm.
That went as well as... Well Nesir was lucky that he only set up fire walls around her and didn't actually set her on fire. After she had been put in her place Ganondorf was actually the most helpful person she had met thus far, explaining how they were from different worlds and how they were prisoners and that only the truly strong would escape.
Nesir walked away from their encounter very aware that she was lucky to be alive.
The next day Nesir awoke in different clothes, a pirate costume (not that she recognised it as such) that she was unable to get off and a command from on high telling her to collect some strange substance called candy. Refusal or failure to do so made the costume get tighter, until it eventually crushed you. She met more people in her travels and came to learn more and more that the worlds others came from were very unlike her own. She quickly learned that being a brat did not get her very far and curbed her anger long enough to try and get answers from people. Her candy hunt took her to all the different floors, each one strange in a different way. She met another roommate Rise and they explored the tower together. She told Nesir about TV and movies.
She had an unfortunate encounter with Enoch who was leaving candy to help others, believing he was one of their kidnappers. Luckily the confusion was dealt with quickly and Enoch explained a little bit more about the tower and the monsters that lived within it. She learned by watching another, more stubborn, newcomer why it was that you had to eat the oatmeal first.
She had been assigned as a morgue worker and was horrified to discover bodies left in caves to rot. The idea of leaving bodies in caves or burying them instead of burning them was something that disturbed her, especially as she learned gradually that it was normal in many of the worlds represented. She met Richtofen in the morgue, dissecting a corpse. He called her a child and suggested she was too young to be there but she asked what he was doing, curious. He explained to her what an autopsy was and admitted he wasn't strictly doing this for science. He taught her how to use a motorised saw and a very very odd friendship was born.
A week after entering the tower Nesir, who was wrecking the workshop in her quest for candy met one Tohko Amano. A girl who would become one of Nesir's enemies. Tohko had already been killed by her costume and transformed into a monster, a monster with blade hands. She cut into Nesir, hurting her. Nesir promised to clean up but then tried to make a run for it. Tohko caught her and they fought, Tohko's transformation had given her extra strength and she overpowered Nesir, cutting off her hand and stabbing her neck. Nesir fell down to the floor below, where Richtofen stole her candy.
Nesir had learned a lot in her week, but not the fact that death wasn't real. Dying in the arms of a doctor who cut people up for fun was terrifying, but Nesir asked him to burn her body, when he was done.
She woke up. Back in her bed, unable to move for twenty seconds and when she could. She had one both hands but only one leg, one eye and a dead parrot was sewn to her shoulder. She had a pistol and a sword and an urge to collect treasure and bury it and make maps. And so she did, she robbed people and buried their treasures on various floors. Candy was the best treasure. She found Tohko, shot her in the shoulder and robbed her, refused to bargain with her and killed her (or rendered her unconscious, she didn't know or care. She figured it was pretty much the same when you just woke up again.)
Tohko later posted on the network asking for her books back in exchange for candy. Nesir had been trying to steal one of the computers and so saw the message. Nesir agreed to the exhange, candy was precious after all and Tohko taught her how to use the network. Nesir returned everything except Tohko's book which she had hidden in her trunk.
And as the month turned Nesir woke up normal, all her limbs, no dead parrot, no compulsion to bury treasure.
November Year Two
Nesir woke up normal and found her training uniform as a 'consolation prize'. She dug up all the non-candy treasure, she put Rise's back on her bed and gathered the rest for if anyone came to claim it. The tower had mysteriously grown, but compared to coming back from the dead that was just mildly weird. She explored new floors and tried to get used to having no structure for the first time in her life. One of the new floors was the graveyard, which disturbed her as much as the morgue did. She met Ganondorf again whilst training and finally gave Tohko her book back. She learned about schools and decided they were a strange concept, somewhere you learned everything before then deciding what you wanted to do. She traded the book for an unspecified favour at a later date.
She met Reno in his bar and offered to get him ingredients in exchange for alcohol. She met Catrina, and talked good and evil with her. Learning that Catrina was a demon, not a light addled idiot. But she was also a succubus, a word Nesir didn't know and mostly just guessed at through context. This interaction ended and all further interactions happened at knife point, Nesir ready to stab if Catrina made one wrong move. A potential ally but a dangerous one.
Nesir disappeared half way through the month, to wander her dead world for two weeks.
December Year Two
Nesir arrived back in the tower, having spent two weeks among the dead. The tower was freezing cold with no heat and nutrition bars in lieu of any real food. Rise got a beehive full of Africanized honey bees that they had to get rid of, because she asked the administrators for honey. She met Hidetoshi and read his notes, an odd alliance born on mutual annoyance and information sharing was born.
She spoke to Gilbert on the network and they decided to rob the restaurant, as they had food and the tower was starving. She also went to a meeting by a person calling for 'strong people'. She and Richtofen came up with a plan to capture and torture some of the blank and red collar workers.
They took down drone workers, she worked with Richtofen, Sephiroth and Lancer. They got no information but Jason, one of the administrators, showed up. They fought him and Jason made Nesir's daggers disappear, shocked her with electricity and then stopped the muscles in her arms and then her legs.
She was carried to a cell, a creepy abandoned hospital style cell. The others were taken too. She was terrified but focused on meditation and finding the emptiness. It was creepy, one of the barrier lights of an empty cell lit up and the air pressure felt strange. A strange figure appeared and spoke in the tongues of a thousand languages. Then it vanished and a young boy, Zo, Nesir would learn appeared. He said that this place was dangerous and that Jason shouldn't have put them there. Then told them to go to sleep.
Nesir woke up in her bed. Shaken she was determined to continue on, now that she knew the power of their captors. She found a girl sewing cloaks and asked what she would want in exchange for making one for her. The girl wanted nothing but Nesir told her she would hunt for some food for her. Rise gave her her spare shoes and Nesir offered to teach her to fight in exchange. They raced to the gymnasium and Nesir gave Rise her first lesson.
Her and Catrina sparred, both taking their anger and fear about what had happened out on each other. As well as the ever present cold there was an illness going around the residents of the tower and Nesir started to feel groggy and ill. She took her temper out of Richtofen and then a little later than planned her and Gilbert decided to rob the resteraunt.
Even though Nesir had seen their captors power. Gilbert had no plan but Nesir sent him to be the distraction whilst she robbed the place. She gathered a feast and they took their spoils to the meadow. They didn't get away with it. A bill appeared on her bed and she refused to pay it. A day later whilst she was going about her usual business she was stopped in her tracks by pain in her chest, her side and her hand, where she could see her thumb had disappeared. As if it had been cut off. Because apparently their captors could remove limbs and organs without being anywhere near. Nesir died of her injuries. She lay low for a week, licking her wounds so to speak.
Finally the flu ended, the heat came back on and they were given food once more. The residents threw a Christmas party, Nesir didn't know what Christmas was but she was happy to be warm and have food. She spoke to Catrina about celebrations of light and dark and Ganondorf (who was wearing a santa clause costume) about honour and dignity. As a 'reward' she received her poisons kit.
January Year Two
Nesir met more people, spoke about people disappearing- their names showed up on headstones in the graveyard and did some carving in the workshop. She met Rei and gave her the hair clip she was making after realising she had no one else to give it to after Rei told her she could sell them for food or warm clothing, that people would appreciate things that reminded them they were human. Rei taught her about handshakes.
She met a man who was desperately looking for someone who had disappeared, someone he could no longer sense. She believed it similar, at least to a warrior bond from her world and so stuck with him, to keep him from doing anything too rash. She made him eat and then offered to spar with him. He told her he couldn't fight girls. Nesir was utterly confused and the more he talked the more confused he got. She figured it was some sort of curse, a very bad one.
There was an... experiment where people believed they had been in the tower much longer than they had been. Nesir believed herself to have been there ten years. She had grown, was twenty five and used to living in a place of horror. She was one of Ganondorf's right hand people and they planned an infiltration into the tower's lower levels. She went to weekly poker games with Saber of White and had a handful of people she called friends as well as a larger circle of people she trolled good naturedly. Her and Hidetoshi had an established partnership of information exchanging. She also knew, through the fake memories that Sephiroth was one of Ganondorf's followers too. She also played death games with Wretched Egg on a regular basis, during one of these during the event Wretched Egg succeeded in drowning her.
When everything went back to normal she still held those memories inside her, she knew them to be fake but she went on to find and meet many of those she had known only in the fake memories.
At the end of January two residents of the tower got married; Reno and Elena. Nesir watched from the staircase. Ruana and Zo appeared and Ganondorf made trouble. She ended the month talking anonymously with someone on the network about names and purposes.
February Year Two
February involved the menu being candy hearts in all the food and also chocolate. It was strange but Nesir liked the mix of sweetness in everything. It reminded her of home.
Nesir's job changed to garbage collector, where she was to collect litter from the tower and burn it in the incinerator. She was not happy about it. Her and Catrina sparred again. Ganondorf came up with a plan that he shared with Nesir, Sephiroth, Richtofen and Naoya. It involved cursing the tower as a distraction and infiltrating the lower levels to find information, a mission that was sure to end in their deaths but could help in the long run. He told Nesir she would be overseeing the infiltration and directly leading one of the groups. Nesir was honoured, though also deeply nervous.
A bunch of people from elsewhere arrived. They didn't have collars and they weren't wearing stupid skin tight clothes. It was strange but Nesir went to meet them and warn them about the dangers of the tower.
There was a question and answer by the administrators. Nesir spoke to Dax briefly about the possibility of sending them to the world the newcomers had come from. After the meeting a bunch of people let off steam by monster hunting, Nesir joined them and fought a giant mass of snakes with a woman called April who used electricity powers.
She also spoke to Ganondorf again who told her she had great potential. Nesir wasn't sure what to feel about the trust he had in her.
Strange music tapes showed up and when listened to had strange, awful effects on people. Nesir managed to avoid being effected or being caught by those who were effected.
She was chosen for a game and took part in 'Little Finger.' She was in a strange dream with a lot of other people where they had to hunt for an old womans missing fingers. She refused to take part in the first round but watched and saw that those who died came back straight away and those that found fingers disappeared. She searched on the second round, she found a finger in a pile of dirt but it was stolen by an owl and taken to a hole in a tree. The owl bit some of Nesir's fingers off when she tried to retrieve the stolen one, her right hand completely useless she tried for the rest of the rounds but failed and was killed.
Nesir's anger was rising. Things kept happening and it was hard to keep her head above water never mind think or plan for the future. The visitors were still there and near the end of the month a strange fog filled the tower. It was safe on the staircases but on all the floors the fog made you see things, people from your past, angry and accusing them, blaming them for their deaths. Nesir was haunted by her sister, by Lotte, by Kant. By all the people she had known in her lifetime.
Some people infiltrated the administrative areas and discovered that they were souls, just souls being put into recycled bodies. The visitors went home, Ruana ate Dax for betraying her. The entire tower was Not Okay. Nesir was Not Okay. Not about Dax, she didn't really care, he had failed he deserved to die, but recycling souls was blashphemy.
She met Zelda who was devestated and made an attempt to reach out to her. Like it or not Nesir lived in the tower and she was a prisoner as much as the light addled fools around her, she had to attempt to keep them strong enough to fight. Her and Zelda spoke about information being their most effective weapon.
March Year Two
Nesir met up with John who had filed the soul extraction process. Seeing was believing, those that held them thought they were gods and now they knew exactly what they were fighting for. She knew she was going to die in the infiltration but that, she swore would be the last time.
She also, in an attempt to help Kuwabara with his 'curse', inadvertently started a debate about feminism on the network. Most important in the people she spoke to was Lancelot, a Knight of his world who spoke to her of honour. He would go on to be a close ally. Kuwabara the not so broken warrior replied and Nesir was furious with him. She claimed he owed her for helping her and swore to call in that favour one day.
She began training in earnest for her infiltration attempt. Her and Sephiroth met properly in the gymnasium. They spoke, both seaking to learn more about the other. She learned he wasn't human and he looked down upon those who were and those without power. He could also fly and had believed his destiny was to rule his whole world.
Finally the day of the infiltration happened. She met Ryoji, a boy around her age who kissed her hand (a gesture of absolute fealty in her world, but not in his, interworld communications are a nightmare). She also met Occelot, a woman who would become a close mentor.
She led the infiltration, when the group split she led one half and Ryoji led the other. They got the information they required and as expected all died.
A few days after the infiltration they met to discuss information. Nesir brought alcohol, most of the villain gang were teetotal but she got Ryoji drunk, they bonded over teasing Sephiroth, as wise kids do.
Then the weather in the tower went through an entire year in a week. In spring it rained, ruining notes, soaking everything through. Summer was oppressingly hot, with thunderstorms and fire dogs, Autumn was gales and winds and Winter was bitterly cold, snowing indoors.
It was awful. She and Hidetoshi did their best to save notes in the spring. In winter she forced Jade and Rise not to freeze to death in bed, shared her cloak with Ryoji, met Wretched egg for the first time since the 'future' and was helped by April and Lancelot when she finally succumbed to the cold. Lancelot explained about his world to her, he was a great warrior she decided, even if he seemed to believe himself without honour.
The weather angered her, she got in a fight with Richtofen, poking at him when he was raging and he tried to shoot her. She escaped without injury.
Then Ryoji betrayed them. It turned out that he wasn't exactly evil. Ganondorf's trust in him had been slightly... misplaced. Nesir went with Ganondorf and Sephiroth to confront him. Before they could do much confonting at all Tohko showed up to rescue him, calling a lightning storm that did very little to Ganondorf and Sephiroth but struck Nesir down, it was like being on fire all over again.
Ganondorf killed Tohko, Ryoji proved how much of an idiot he was and they... made sure he was shown the error of his ways. They parted bitterly.
For two days Nesir put up with the pain of the burns, determined to not give the administrators another excuse to handle her soul. But the anger that had been burning for a while finally got too much.
Growth is knowing it is futile to go on a killing spree in a place where everyone will just return and make your life a misery, so Nesir went to the restaurant and got drunk instead. She gave Rei alcohol, bickered with Hidetoshi and eventually fell asleep on him. She partook in drunken knife fighting and confronted Ryoji.
The next day the price was extracted and she left herself die. Death 'fixed' the burns and a lot of the anger that came with them. She regained her focus and threw herself back into training. She spoke to Ganondorf who admitted to overestimating Ryoji and gave her the task of spying on him, to keep an eye on him. A school was set up in the library and she took part in a philosophy 'class' taught by Chaos.
April, Year Two
The month turned and so life continued. Nesir sought Ryoji out, apologised for shouting at him ad rekindled their friendship. This time on her terms, knowing it was fake on her part but gathering info for Ganondorf.
Half way through the month though she was taken by the administrators and turned into a drone. As were many others in the tower. She went about her tasks, attacking those that broke the rules. Including Occelot and Sephiroth and she was killed herself by Shiki.
Five days of chaos and Nesir was back to normal. She didn't know how to feel. Being controlled was nothing new to her, but being controlled and not even having her mind her own, was new and she hated it. She got a 'reward', the dress Lotte had bought her for midwinter, that she had never worn because of her failed mission. She and Occelot spoke, Nesir letting herself speak for the first time about her fear, that this place could control your very mind, turn your limbs off, remove organs without even touching you. Occelot told her she had a plan and to give her time. Nesir agreed. She and Lancelot sparred.
Her and Sephiroth spoke on freedom and blame.
A few days after things had calmed down she met Ryoji who had spent time in a room that removed memories. She got angry at him and took it upon herself to make sure he stayed away from it, before he lost everything. April taught her how to play video games. Her roommates made a pillow fort in their room, confusing Nesir.
May, Year Two
Ryoji moved rooms, Nesir wondered if he had disappeared but managed to find him. She continued her spying but, unbeknown to her Sephiroth had noticed her friendship with Ryoji and not knowing the task Ganondorf had given her took it upon himself to ruin it. He projected feelings onto Ryoji and Nesir and she began to feel like she liked Ryoji more than just a friend.
Ganondorf chaired another meeting of evil. This one was a lot more inclusive to anyone who was anywhere near not-good in the tower. Nesir was a lot more cautious, after what had happened with Ryoji. She met like minded people and rolled her eyes at the stupidity of people, even those on the shadows side.
Rumours began being written on the walls believed completely by those who read them. Some came true, some could be changed. Nesir probably knew better than to write rumours, especially when they also got carved into your own skin. But she did so, she helped Saber when she got hurt but changed Saber's rumour the moment Saber left. Ganondorf is the one true king of animus was Nesir's message.
As well as carving in walls she also carved in wood, making gifts for those she knew. Some out of friendship, some to repay debts, some to make a point. She made Sephiroth a tree and a note asking if he had forgiven her for her actions as a drone. As hoped he met her at the tree they had once climbed together. They spoke and Sephiroth admitted that he wasn't really angry at her, but at the administrators. They agreed to work together.
Her and Rei had an arm wrestle on the beach, Rei told her about her home and the giant machines they fought in. Nesir began messing with the sand, making shapes and soon she and Rei had made a mud village, villagers and some monsters. It was incredibly childish and unlike anything Nesir had ever done before. It was a lot of fun.
She found Richtofen under her bed (a slight changing of a rumour she had made). Then despite all of the bad feelings she got about writing a fourth rumour she did it anyways, writing you will die if you don't obey Ganondorf. It got changed to "you will die if you read this message and carved itself on her face. She met a cake summoning which who was less than helpful. Rise and Occelot tried to help her as did Kuwabara who was the last person Nesir wanted to see. She also met with Sephiroth who she bickered with, he told her just to die and unfortunately the rumour came true with perfect timing and she did so.
There was a masquerade ball organised by a group called Pandora. On the back of the invitation was a message Remember this: There will come a time when everything around you seems to be not what you thought it was, and you won't know what to believe about anything at all. At that time, look for something that is still true.
Nesir's interest was piqued and she went to the ball. The ballroom floor had masks that made everyone completely anonymous. Her and a mysterious figure spoke about hope. They gave her a message to pass on Hope is our friend.
She met with Ryoji again, Sephiroth continued projecting emotions on them resulting in them kissing, a confusing and weird moment and one Nesir quickly figured out was not caused by her own emotions though it would be a little longer until she figured out it was Sephiroth's doing.
And so the month... And a year came to an end.
June, Year Three
Nesir woke up in a bed that was not hers, in a room with lamps that shone brighter than any lamps she had ever known and a note telling her that her world had been destroyed. The first person she
